What are the RAM-card requirements for loading LAWO-equipment?, 20 Nov. 2013 11:15
|
Ive got a small LAWO SICMA-flex (LED) and a complete MONO flipdot-set (one master with two slaves) for my collection. The signs are working, but now I want to program some custom texts on it.
I already have TEDplus and I know Ill need a RAM-card to load the signs.
On eBay I saw some cards, but I dont know which the requirements are for loading a SICMA-flex and a Mono-master. How about the size (64KB, 128KB, 256KB or 512KB) and the attribute memory (none, 2KB, 4KB or 8KB) of the card?
I want to write the card in the PCMCIA-slot of a laptop. I know the card must be first formatted with a L1151A or OmniDrive before it can be used in a laptop, but is it possible to image a formatted card to a new card with a program like eLan Memory Card Explorer?
So far I know, TEDplus requires a RAM-card with a drive-letter if its used in a laptop-slot. Does any RAM-card got a drive-letter or only some cards? Is there any buying advise for a usable RAM-card to load a SICMA-flex and Mono-master?
The SICMA-flex had its own controls on the back, the Mono-set is controlled with Ds001 and Ds003 (like using a 801/4 of L8401).

Nice equipment ;-)
I using a 2MB-SRAM-Card to load my Mono-Signs. But i using a L1151 to load the card... I don‘t know, but I think you don‘t need a L1151-formated Card to load it with laptop. I had load the Sign-Data (mo1) with a PC-Card-Drive for PCI and it works, but load new Firmware doesn‘t work.

Ok, so a 2MB card will work There‘s some transportation company here using a 512KB card, but I don‘t have details about that card
Has your card 2KB, 8KB or no attribute memory? And how do you write the mo1 data to the card with a PCI-adapter? In TEDplus it will need a drive-letter. Or did you wrote it "byte-by-byte" with a program like Memory Card Explorer?

My SRAM-Card is from an Almex-Ticketprinter.
Has your card 2KB, 8KB or no attribute memory?
I don‘t understand what you mean?
And how do you write the mo1 data to the card with a PCI-adapter?

I dont understand what you mean?
Attribute memory on a linear flash of SRAM card is a small piece of (flash)memory which contains some information about the card (the CIS, Card Information Structure).
Some info about it: http://www.sramcards.com/sram-card-attribute-memory.html
Some flash and SRAM cards does have it, some doesnt. I dont know if this has effect on LAWO equipment and the assignment of a drive-letter to the SRAM-card in Windows?
You can use eLans Memory Card Explorer to see if your card has this extra memory.
I know that attrib. memory does matter on sign-equipment from Meister Electronics. It only can use flash-cards without attrib. memory. It gives an error when using a card with attrib. memory. But I have no experience with SRAM-cards and LAWO-equipment.

OK, so your card does got a drive-letter assigned Must the .mo1-file have some specific name and with which filesystem is your card formatted? On Windows 98 only trueffs is supported out-of-the-box, so far I know.

Hello,
the requirements are a little bit various. For the Monomaster of the "old" system, the RAM card must be formatted with a L1151 or an Omnidrive using TED plus. There is a special pointer that it written while formatting and that is necessary for the Monomaster to read the file list. My attempts have shown that a L1151-formatted card can also be filled by using copy and paste at a PCMCIA-slot on Windows.
The Sicma-system is less complicated. Here you can even use a CF to PCMCIA adaptor with a "smaller" CF card (< 2MB).and it is not needed that a 1151 was used for formatting, you just need to format it in FAT system.
The "original" LAWO cards were Panasonic Cards with attribute memory. The attribute memory is not needed by Lawo and the 1151, but for accessing the card as a drive on Windows. Unfortunately, these cards are not produced any more.....
Hope I was able to help....
Regards, Jens

This is good to know A CF-to-PCMCIA adapter is quite cheap and is easy to buy in The Netherlands.
Do you really mean <2MB of is it <2GB? Because the smallest CF-card I‘ve seen was a 8MB card.

The card used by a transit company was a Panasonic BN-512HSR 512KB card in a L1151 drive
So I should look for a SRAM-card with attribute memory to use it in a laptop-slot. These cards are expensive on eBay... I will keep watch it frequently... |

Mh, it depends. The problem is that not any card can be used by the "Panasonic-Win-Driver".....
I have got a PRETEC 512 KB-card /Type SN 5512) and it does NOT work on windows....

But does that card have attribute memory? If this is correct, the SN 5512 doesn‘t have attribute memory: http://www.pretec.com/products/industrial-products/item/industrial/sram-card#magictabs_hLAYq_3 (look at "Order info")
That can be a reason the card can‘t be used in Windows as a storage device?
The Pretec S6F201C has 8KB attribute memory, which was needed for Windows to access it a storage device, written some posts above in this topic.
I‘ll think about it and maybe first ask if the card can be returned if it‘s not compatible... |

Meanwhile, I‘ve got a 1MB SRAM card The card does get a drive-letter in Windows and I can write to it with Windows Explorer.
If I put the card into the Mono sign-controller, the LED is blinking orange continuously. Does this mean the card is not properly formatted or is my sign defective? |

I think it must be the problem with the "correct" formatting. After formatting on a L1151A you should be able to use this card in Windows Explorer.

Ok, then I go contact someone with a L1151A drive to ask if he can format the card for me
If I may ask: what is the reason the card must be formatted specific within a L1151A or OmniDrive before in can be used in a MONO sign-controller? Is the format-function from TEDplus also used to format in the L1151A/OmniDrive or must another program be used for it? |

Hi Kien,
you don´t need the L1151A or omnidrive. The problem are the byte positions on the Ram-card. The controller expects the data at specific points. I sent you an email with a formated bin-file. The file is for 512KB cards, the minimum capacity for the Mono-Controllers. My way of formating S-RAM cards for Lawo with the german version of the HxD (tested with CU1 and CU3):
1. put the card into the slot and be sure that the drive is listet in the explorer and you have access on the card 2. open the file: "lawo_formatiert.bin" in the HxD, set the "Bytes pro Zeile" to 16 (it looks better) 3. go to "Extras" choose "Datenträger öffnen" and remove the checkmark "Schreibgeschützt öffnen" and choose your SRAM card-volume >OK 4. go to "Bearbeiten" > "Alles markieren" > "Bearbeiten" > "Auswahl füllen" and set the "Hex-Werte" to "FF" > set "Durchläufe>Hinzufügen" to "5.Durchlauf" > OK -This is important for deleting the complete (larger) volume, because the lawo_formatiert.bin has just 512kB. 5. go to "Datei" > "Speichern" accept the following warning with "ja"
Note: you should not remove the card this time!
6. go to the other window with the lawo_formatiert.bin file and go to "Bearbeiten" > "Alles markieren" > "Bearbeiten" > "Kopieren" 7. go to the window with the SRAM card and set the cursor in the beginning of the first line without mark it 8. go to "Bearbeiten" > "Schreiben" 9. go to "Datei" > "Speichern" accept the following warning with "ja"
Now you can load the card ("Texte, Betriebsprogramme") with TED and it should works in your display. Use separate cards for "Betriebsprogramm" and "Texte", do not load both on one card.
Best regards, Raiko

I‘ve tried the steps to format my card, but it still doesn‘t work with MONO signs Only the behavior of the sign-controller is changed: when the card is inserted, the LED next to the card slot illuminate orange continuously. It looks like the controller is loading data, but this process hangs. I already have wait 10 minutes without any result. When I remove the card, the sign-controller restarts with it‘s old destination data.
I also have try it on another MONO sign, there the behavior is a bit different: the LED stays orange for about 1 minute, then is flash orange slowly.
Maybe it‘s a problem because my card is a 1MB one? By formatting the card with the .bin-file and HxD, the card is capped to about ~500KB.
Edit: is it needed to reload firmware? I only have loaded texts. The sign was already configured to contol with a 801/4 (Ds001 & Ds003), so I was under assumption there is no need to reload the firmware... |

Hi Kien,
you should load the card directly in TED under the menupoint "Datentransfer" "(RAM Karte) Daten schreiben" (after writing my bin-file on the card) , did you this? It is not possible copy and paste the files to the card in the explorer, before first loading directly with TED. My bin-file is substitute for formating with Omnidrive or L1151A, but no substitute for loading with TED as first. The file sets the first byte strings for loading with TED and the rest is filled with ´FF´. It is also possible writing firmware with this file as the base, but you don´t need it.
Best regards, Raiko |

Dear kien1989, I spend a lot of time to format the LAWO card untill i bought the OmniDrive USB2 Professional and i did the follow: Start the PCM (pc-card-manager) download here Then must load the LLE_m_Vektor_Original_LLE-Card_512 and you are ready.

Best regards, Yiannis

Ist es nicht einfacher, die Karte einmal in das L1151 zu schieben und zu formatieren? |

The card is working now
It is formatted in a laptop by writing an image to it from a already formatted and loaded 512KB card with a program like HxD or Memory Card Explorer. Now its possible to write destination-data and firmware to it with TEDplus and load it in the MONO sign
Futher, the card is a 1MB one with attribute memory. It works in Windows XP (2000 not tested), but not in Windows 98. The SRAM-driver in Windows 98 (Trueffs) doesnt understand the filesystem on the card.
Loading new data and/or firmware must be done within TEDplus. Just copy-paste the files doesnt work the most time.
Ive some new questions: I can load firmware for Ds3a and Ds21 in the MONO-sign. After loading, the sign-controller starts up with the new firmware-version showing on the sign.
Is there a way to configure the Ds3a or Ds21 firmware to work with IBIS Utility? I think something must be configured in the custom.cfg before it can work. Because if I flash the firmware only, the sign doesnt respond to any telegrams from IBIS utility yet. |

After changing the firmware, you have to create a fitting mo1-file that contains the options you will use. A central function has the ZD-file that is included to the MO1-file.
My suggestion: send me your wishes and I will see what we can manage. I have a quite good documentation on these things...
