Greetings to all!
This topic will be devoted to my projects to facilitate work with various information systems.
Thinking about the idea of managing different information systems, while having to deal with the buses which were sold off without control units and/or their functional left much to be desired, I decided to develop a modern on-board computer for the driver and the transit companies in particular.
The device, like the development of Tobias Timpe, is based on Raspberry PI, but the main efforts are aimed at the compatibility of foreign information systems that also use IBIS or even RS-485.
The functionality of the on-board computer currently implemented:
- displaying of the route timetable for the driver, as well as service information about each stop (checkpoint, on demand, etc.), abilty to choose another trace or stop at any time;
- various of operation modes: according to the schedule, without a schedule, service trip;
- automatic announcement of stops using the global positioning system, including announcements both in the bus and through an outside speaker (if the last is actually installed);
- the ability to play additional predefined audio records via a special menu (‘waiting for departure according to schedule‘, ‘going to the depot‘, etc.)
List of information systems that this computer can control and available functionality for each of them:
BUSE:
- all available digital commands + texting cmds: v, zM, zN, aA, zA. The user can decide for himself whether to choose a decentralized type of work with the displays or send all data by text commands, or combine both methods.
- programming the database without BS100 or some another control unit.
- periodical check of the displays on the bus board and processing the statuses;
Bustec:
- support for all standard commands;
Mobitec:
- direct control of displays, without ICU; - the ability to flexibly configure displays (display time and date, advertising or service information etc.); - no limitations in the database memory, unlike with the ICU;
Hanover (work in progress):
- direct control of displays, without D/Eric;
Granato (work in progress):
- Ukrainian local information system;
At the moment, a client application is being designed for convenient creation and editing of databases for the on-board computer, not to mention a series of the tests to check the whole system is working properly. So a lot of work is still needs to be done, but I‘d be glad to hear your wishes and comments!

Hmm.. I do know a Michal.K who does the same work in a city in Ukraine, but AFAIK the mentioned system is not in use in that city.
Pretty sure everybody here would enjoy seeing some photos, even if it‘ a WIP. Please use imgur to host the pictures.
UART->VDV300 convertor schematics would be cool to see. Naturally if it‘s an opensource project that would be cool in more ways than one. |

If were talking IBIS here: - We need a board that has a DIN41612 connector at the back, a 40-pin header for the Raspberry Pi, at least 4 serial ports at different logic levels (IBIS Wagenbus, IBIS Zugbus A and B, IBIS radio communication), which means 2 TTL to 24V and 2 TTL to 60V converters, and some switching power supply chip to supply 5V 3-4 A to the Pi - 24V I/O level shifting for WI, TK, OBI, UEB, etc. - Some LEDs at the front would be nice
If somebody could design such a PCB in a standard format, the software then can be built in whatever way we need it. |

Still using the old one, for testing purposes it‘s completely fine. But of course, the converter has to be replaced with smth more reliable. Smth that will not overheat.
I‘ll post screenshots later, the lack of free time has it‘s consequences on the project... |

Hello everyone. It‘s been a long time since my last message... But the project is alive! Slooooowly, but moving forward.
Good news:
I got my hands on an Italian information system Ameli (former Dutch bus VDL) with the need to program it for the Ukrainian language (Cyrillic). After reading the topics on this forum, it became clear that these systems are not famous for their adaptability. But nevertheless, after a week of experiments and research, the displays were finally programmed for Cyrillic characters!
Naturally, the list of supported systems of my project will be replenished with this manufacturer.
