Krueger flip-dot // Meister LCD, 22 Oct. 2012 17:15

Hello,
First of all: I don‘t speak Deutsch so I write my message in English. I hope it doesn‘t matter.
I‘m a new user here on the forum and my name is Dave. I work at a buscompany that has partybusses (Den Oudsten and Berkhof).
Currently we have a few busses with Krueger flip-dot but we are looking for Meister for all our busses.
Since we use foggers in our partybusses the flip-dots doesn‘t work 100%. After a few times we used the fogger I need to clean the flip-dots so they wont stick.
Currently we have the following textsigns;
2 busses with Krueger 128x16 dots
1 bus with Meister LCD 5xGV62 glasses.
And not in our busses;
2x Meister 6xGV59 glasses (working)
1x Meister 6xGV59 glasses (1 glas defect, 1 GV59 glass costs here around the 700,- )
2x Krueger 128x16 dots
Also I‘ve repainted our Krueger signs with fluorescent yellow :)

Bus ready for use
Bus in use, replaced orginial lights for RGB LED. The 4 ‘lines‘ are gone, fixed itself (didn‘t do anything haha)

Meister;
Its working, but I didn‘t had the correct text file/software yet, also wrong firmware version. So it looks like PACMAN.
5xGV62. And finally I got it working with the correct software, firmware etc :)
6xGV59 also working
Meister defect;
1 glass defect, very sad.
Same glass.
2 busses active;

In Netherlands most people sing "bier en tieten.. jalalala" means: "Beer and... boobs.. jalalala".

Hey, i really like your buses. Did you remove the seats from the interior or are they still in there? I know a guy that removed a few seats from a MAN NL202 and made it a kitchen bus. He gave me a seatbench that he removed from that bus.
Currently i have no idea where you could get LCD Signs from Meister. You could try asking "DB Stadtverkehr" or the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, they still have LCD Buses, but i dont know if these are Meister LCD Signs.

Thanks, the busses are from my boss. But I did all the work of the textsigns :)
No we didn‘t remove any seats, we have in the small bus 43 seats and like 34 standing places. We put max 60 people (77 allowed) in the bus, otherwise its tooo full, so they can‘t dance anymore while riding. The big bus (18 meters) we have 69 seats and 54 standing places, in that bus we put max 80-90 people (123 allowed).
Its very easy to find companies with textsigns, but very hard to find people we want to gave them. There are many peoples, companies that doesn‘t use the textsigns, since they can‘t program them themselfs. Also all buses that are sold for export mostly in 95% cases never uses the textsign.
Also busses for scrapping have mostly the textsigns in it, and will get lost :(
So now I got contact with a company that scraps busses, so when they receive busses with LCD they will call me :)

Hello,
I‘m looking for 1 GV59 glass, so I can‘t help you, i‘m sorry. I know only a company in the Netherlands where you can get a GV59 glass for 700,- (new). I‘ve asked that company when I can give them my 3 route nr sign, if we can get 1 GV59 glass back for it. No response yet.
Did you find already a company for it? I‘m also not 100% sure if the glasses are the same.
The signs that are not in our busses is because I first need to find also controllers for them (Meister). Then I will replace all Krueger flip-dot signs with Meister LCD.

Pff what a abnormal price for a small piece of LCD.
When I maybe get another ‘defect‘ Meister LCD sign and have GV59 available I‘ll let you know

Since +/- 2 months now I‘ve got the Meister 6xGV59 built in :)
Here a picture in active state
The busses with Krueger flip-dot we will replace with Meister LCD (if we got them complete).

A few days ago I have repainted a Krueger flip-dot 16x128 again. Since almost all flip-dots were white instead of fluo-yellow.
Here some pictures of it, I‘ll hope you like it 
Before painting, originally state. As you can see they are almost white.
Painting them fluo-yellow. As you can see 2/3 is already done, last bit (right) not yet.
And the result, painting done.

I like it, really looks like new!
How do you have repainted the dots? Small brush, 2 weeks no coffee and looooooots of time?
Which paint have you used?
In resume I like your projekt, especially that part, with the RGB-Leds. ;)

Thanks for the good reactions, its worth it! :)
Its almost very easy to do. You have to program the EG88x/EG95x to full negative.
Set the krueger to full negative (yellow) and remove the power.
Tape the frame and TL lights etc. Then take just ‘default‘ fluo-yellow and spray bit-by-bit the dots yellow.
Take some air (air compressor or something) and hold it at the sign so they go (open / closed / open closed). After a few minutes (2-3 minutes) the yellow is dry, and go on next flip-dots. And do it again with the air.
After that is done, put power back on, and be sure everything is closed / black. Power off. And paint them black and use also (again) some air to dry the flip-dots (let them also go open / closed / open closed).
Now you‘re done, and it looks like new
I‘ve used this below and ‘matt black‘.
I guess I was finished with 1 / 1.5 hours.

About the RGB LED;
When I got time I will also try RGB at a Meister LCD sign if that looks also cool. Only I need to remove the yellow plates.
Its just default RGB stripe, removed the TL lights and starters and placed there the RGB stripe. Just 15-20 minutes of work, replacing the TL with RGB.

I had the same Idea, but with a UV-Light LED-Strip instead of RGB, to use it at night in my flat.. ;)

Hello,
You can buy the cable (original) if you want at FM InfoSystems GmbH. Or make it yourself, the cable scheme listed below.
To load the EG88x with data you need a Krueger DL 90 download box (not for sale anymore) or manual with EPROMs.

The cable i‘ve made myself. The DL90 isn‘t for sale anymore, so you can‘t buy at anywhere.
I don‘t have a DL90 so I use a EG88x to program my EG95x controllers.
Program the EPROM with the Krueger EIS data and put it in your EG88x. After that can you use the download cable to load from EG88x to EG95x
You need a EPROM programmer and EPROMs (27C256 or something).

Wie kann ich es auf der DS003,
Einer der beiden, die ich habe ein DS001 und DS003 Werke
die zweite nicht auf DS003 Protokoll.

You need a download cable, then you can change the settings of the EG unit.
See the scheme a few posts higher. Then you get in the service menu of the Krueger EG.
Official download cable form Krueger / InfoSystems costs 100,-.
