Brose - VMAED , 26 Jan. 2026 21:56

I am writing to ask for guidance regarding VMAED and the setup of a Brose display.

I am working with a MAN bus that already has destinations installed on the display system. Most of them work correctly, however some destinations need to be edited or adjusted. For this reason, I started using VMAED, but I am unfortunately not familiar with how the software works and I am not sure how to properly edit or manage the destinations.

I was able to start VMAED itself, but I do not know how to use it correctly. I would like to ask if you could provide any guidance, documentation, or basic instructions on how to work with VMAED and how to set up or edit destinations for a Brose display.

Additionally, whenever I try to open the VMAED GesamtSimulation, the application crashes immediately. If this is a known issue or if there is a specific configuration required, I would appreciate your advice.

Any help, manuals, or recommendations you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

To work with VMAED, you need a VMA.CFG file.
This defines the character set, display resolution and addresses in the EPROM.
The memory addresses in the CFG file must match those in the monitor EPROM on the display computer, otherwise there will be problems with the display.
Since VMAED has opened for you, it seems to have the file as well.

"Gesamtsimulation" only works if you have the BUSVGA.PCX file.

Under "Editieren" -> "Text u. Vollmatrix" you can create a new file by going to "Datei" -> "Neu".
Since it is old software, file names can be a maximum of 8 characters long.

"Listenname" is the file name.
"Listentyp" indicates the type, whether it is a bug target display, page display, or line display.
Front display is B
Side display is S
And the line number display is L

After you have created the file and assigned the appropriate list type, it should display the display position (for example, Bug) as well as the file path in the blue line.
You create an entry with "A".
For "Codenr" you enter the desired code number, for example "000".
The cursor will then automatically switch to the text field where you can enter your text.
At "000", the display is often emptied.
There is an entry in the font for this purpose, which can be called up under "SCHWARZ".
This time the "" must be included in the text field and the upper and lower case letters must be taken into account.

Pressing CTRL + Enter saves the entry and you can then continue directly with the next entry, or you can exit with ESC.
With "V" or "Z" you can scroll through the entries, or with "B" jump directly to the first entry, or "N" to the last entry.
You can activate the search function using "F".
By pressing the "S" key, you can open the small simulation or display.
With "M", the simulation opens in a new window.
In this window, you can also set whether the text should be left- or right-aligned, "i" invert the display, use a different font, or determine the timing line.
To return from the window, you need to press the "L" key.

Under "Datei" -> "Beenden" you return to the VMAED start window.
After you have created everything, you can create your output file for the EPROM under "Transfer" -> "Datei" -> "Binärdatei".

In the "Bugliste", you provide your file for the front, which also has Listentyp "B".
"1. Linienliste" is the file for the line on the front, page, and only displays the line. This one has Listentyp "L".
"1. Seitenliste" is the file that is for the page display. Here your file should have Listentyp "S"
For the "Transferdatei" you enter any name that will be used for the BIN file.
