HPW MAS 2/3 with "Polling UDL now", 28 Oct. 2021 23:37

I‘ve got a HPW MAS (I don‘t know if it‘s a 2 or 3) which I suppose doesn‘t have data anymore or has a lost configuration. It starts up with "Polling UDL now".

Is it possible to get this unit back working again for sign controlling without a UDL?

Is the card a necessary part? On the same PCB as the card slot there are also 4 29F040 flash IC‘s, these can‘t store the data?

Which type of card (PCMCIA linear flash?) does it need and is it possible to copy a card image from another unit?

Guten Morgen,

So the answer is - it depends :)

Depending on how the unit was initially loaded, the internal flash may or may not even have a Data stored on them.

With ex BVG units its usual to see a very old DV on the Flash Chips and a new one on the PCMCIA Card.

You can set the "loaded" flag with the serial monitor, but the unit may still refuse to function because the Data is invalid(aka not longer valid, as there is an expire date set) or because the internal CMOS battery is dead and all configuration parameters were reset.

Now about this unit:

It looks like the unit does not have the contactless card add-on, so it was always loaded via UDL. This also means that it may have been actually used without the PCMCIA card all along and you have a very good chance of restoring it with just setting the loaded parameter with the serial monitor.

I‘ve checked the MAS Testmonitor topic, but still doesn‘t understand how to connect it. It says:

But "Monitor-Empfänger" and "Monitor-Sender" are the green and brown wires, these are connected to ground on the IBIS interface. So this is not going to work. IBIS is 4 wires, I think that‘s an error in that topic?

I saw there‘s also a internal RS232 header, but on mine the PCB layout is a bit different and I don‘t have a DB-9 cable at the moment, so I prefer to use the IBIS level method.
