SRAM-Karte für LAWO Monobus: 8 Bit oder 16 Bit?, 11 Apr. 2020 18:02

Hallo,
Ich überlege mich mit der Programmierung einer LAWO-Monobusanlage zu beschäftigen.
Nun stehe ich vor dem Hindernis: Ich brauche eine SRAM-Karte, die ich beschreiben kann/darf. Also eine Neue kaufen.
Nun die Frage, was nimmt man da? 8 Bit oder 16 Bit? Oder ist das egal? 1MB sollte ja kein Problem sein?
Auf der geliehenen Karte, auf der auch Daten sind (die ich auch wieder zurückgeben muss), steht nichts dahingehend...

Da gibts unterschiede?
Ich habe Mitsubishi MF32M1-lYCAT01 und Mitsubishi MF3513-LCDAT01

Ohja es gibt da Unterschiede : Alte Monomaster können ausnahmslos nur mit SRAM 8/16bit Dualboot umgehen neuere auch mit reinen 16bitSRAMkarten . Da die Dualbootkarten immer mehr zu Raritäten werden , werden die langfristig ganz vom Markt verschwinden und der noch eine hat wird die hüten wie ein Augapfel um die alten Geräte weiter füttern zu können .
Ganz neue Lawogeärte werden ja inzwischen per USBstick oder gar LAN/Wlan geladen .
Den SRAMkarten geht es irgendwann genauso wie den Downloadgeräten für Lawo :-D

PS wir nutzen die alten Lwaomaster nur noch für Vereinsinterne Gerätschaften , in den Vereins/Firmenfahrzeugen nur noch 16bitfähige Master bzw USB/Lankompatible Box-PC von Lawo .

I want to know it as well because I only have one (Pretec) card which is dual 8/16bit.
But I‘ve saw a article about the chip which makes it possible to have cards do both 8 and 16 bit is out of production. You can only buy 8-bit or 16-bit cards now.
But the older LAWO MONO cannot use 8-bit mode only cards? How can it use both modes at the same time?
If one day the cards are really nowhere to be found, most MONO can still be loaded with a PC with hardware parallel port. But it‘s not convenient.

Problem is:
- the device in the sign needs 8 bit
- the PC drive to get data on it needs 16 bit.
-> You can use 8 bit cards on mono systems, but: then you need a special version of the Omnidrive that can handle the cards by 8 bit.
This nice little Omnidrive costs something around 800 EUR......

How about the PCMCIA slots in older laptops? Can these not handle 8-bit cards as well?
Edit: It seems like at least some slots in PC‘s should recognize 8-bit cards as well.

I resently bough a LPT(parralel port) Omnidrive for 30 EUR :) Set up a search on eBay, you will get one in a couple of months.

There are no 8bit SRAM cards(they all were 8/16 as per PCMCIA specs), there are 8bit Linear Flash cards(basically a new flash chip with an adapter that can only talk 8bit, old LF cards are 8/16), but I never had one so i can"t verify.

Because the IC which makes the cards can do both 8/16 bits are out of production now there are only separated 8-bit and 16-bit SRAM cards.

Late summer of 2017 our supplier of Data Bus Auto Transfer integrated circuits (IC) put their product on end of life (EOL). Because PCMCIA PC Card devices have been deprecated for over a decade, no other supplier has been willing to provide an alternative IC. The IC allowed PCMCIA PC Card SRAM to negotiate with the host whether the host required an 8-bit or 16-bit data bus for transfers. Unable to find an alternative supplier of the Data Bus Auto Transfer IC, we now provide PCMCIA PC Card SRAM in two separate categories. 16-bit cards, which are the most prevalent in use by most host systems, and 8-bit cards for systems with that requirement. The cards are not interchangeable. Because auto switching had always been available in the past, most devices don‘t specify which type they require.
One major consideration is that neither the widely deployed OMNIDriveUSB2 Pro nor OMNIDriveUSB2 LF USB based card readers work with the 8-bit cards. They only work with the 16-bit versions. The OmniDrives will never be able to use 8-bit cards. We have tested the 8-bit cards in a native PC Card slot on a XP machine, and it allowed MCE to recognize and format the cards. If you have access to older systems with PCI based or native PC Cards slots running XP or earlier, this is a viable option.

There is actually a 8 bit LF USB omnidrive on the CSM website.
Never thought that they actually made the 8bit sram cards, as the things are obsolete even in industrial PCs..
