Brose flip-dot sign with SA 535-4 board and unknown protocol, 09 Jun. 2016 03:41

I‘ve got a Brose flip-dot sign which has a SA 535-4 controller board inside it. With firmware-version "V21 OVF 16".

Is this a Ds021 sign? And which type of Ds021 does it use? It doesn‘t respond to any Ds021 variant in IBIS Utility.

And how can I check if the sign controller is working when I apply power to it? It don‘t have any LED‘s on it.

Is there any firmware version to change it to Ds001 and Ds003?

I have very little knowledge about Brose signs.

Hello Josefien,

OVF uses a special combination of telegrams.
IN normal case, it should work on a DS021T for a text (check the IBIS address to get a correct output).

To get a line number, you have to use a special telegram, zLxxxx.

Using this telegram, you can send 4digit, alphanumeric line numbers. On top, you can get some special icons by sending DS1a.

Regards,
Jens

It doesn‘t work with Ds021T and the zLxxx telegram. Ds001a also doesn‘t work. I also have tried the back-sign, with no results.

Is there another firmware with a known protocol which I can use on this board? There‘s no LED or anything other on the sign controller board to indicate it‘s working or not, so I can‘t see if it‘s a wrong telegram or a defective controller.

Edit: you are right, the sign works with Ds021T and zLxxxx for a line-number. Ds001a also works

The problem was that I had the bad luck that both the side and back sign has a defective sign controller. The 1A fuse was blow because a 1.5KE-33A diode has shorted the power supply. After replacing the fuse and diode the sign works back correctly

Both the controller in the side and back sign has the same defect, I don‘t know why. Because I only have one spare 1.5KE-33A at the moment, I only have repaired the side sign.
