Loading a very old Gorba sign?, 25 Feb. 2014 23:59

I‘ve got a (very old) Gorba flip-dot sign  It‘s controlled with Ds001 telegrams, but can also be something like Ds003 if a dail-switch on the driverboard is turned.
I already have Alpha-NT software to create texts for the sign, but I can‘t get it to load into the sign  The sign has a RAM-card slot with only one row of pins, so a PCMCIA RAM-card won‘t fit. But there‘s also a removable EEPROM (28c256) on the driverboard (a ID-ST-2 v1.1). I‘ve read this out and it looks like the texts are stored here and it‘s a IDF-file with some additions.
The Alpha-NT software can output "innes-files" (.IDF) to disk or directly to a serial card-drive. Since I don‘t have a suitable card-drive or card, I‘ve just write the .IDF-file to a 28c256 EEPROM and put it in the sign controller. But it doesn‘t work: the controller shows only "NO EPR." on the sign at start-up and won‘t do anything others
Has anybody ideas how to load new texts to this sign without the use of the special card-drive/card? Or is there any Ds003a of Ds021 firmware available for this sign?
And there‘s a position on the dail-switch labeled "PC-modus". What does it do?

The Innes File format is the correct one, The Alpha NT editor seems to be "too new" for these signs, so that you have to "pimp" the IDF file.
In the beginning of the file (I think it is the second byte?) Alpha NT writes "00" - I just changed it to the value that was in the flash (I think "31"). Then it works....

You‘re right with changing the second byte to 31. The original file in my sign also has 31 at the second byte After changing it in the new Innes-file and loaded in the 28c256, the sign works fine with my new texts
Btw. do you know why the firmware-eprom says "Innotron" while the sign is a Gorba one? It‘s quite notable.

Well, the whole control unit is from Innotron, I think Gorba used these controllers in the old times. When using a gorba control unit there was also Innotron written on the platine.
But Innotron must have been a good parts deliverer, Engel & Co control units also had Innotron inside....

A quick look at the Innotron website confirms that Innotron was a part suplier:

Ah, oké
Innotron also has made some nice looking flip-dot signs with square dots, but I don‘t have one yet :-|
Futher, the Gorba sign in the start-post is controlled with L-telegrams (Ds001). There is a dial-switch on the driverboard which can be set to:
1. Zieltelegramm (tested, Ds003)
2. Haltestellentelegramm
3. Linientelegramm (tested, Ds001)
4. PC-modus
5. Demo. anzeigen von linie 0
The line-number at destination are bounded together and selected at once with a Ds001-telegram.
Are there possibilities to set-up the sign to use Ds001 for the line-number and Ds003 for the destination? Or use something like Ds003a of Ds021?
There is also a haltestellentelegram and the "PC-modus". What does these two options mean?

Sorry, I don‘t have any more informations on this. WIth the software 193.xxx you have (and I have), you can only use one DS to control the units, The function of the other options must be discovered, I didn‘t yet try because of other "problems"...
