Difference between master and slave device, 10 Sep. 2013 21:59

What is the physical/electical difference between master and slave IBIS devices? Master device (according to specs) should be able to work as slave.
Slave devices are not allowed to "speak" on their own but should also be able to transmit messages (to respond to master), so why is there a physical Master/Slave switch on the converters? Or does it swap WBSD/WBMS with WBME/WBED?

A master is not automatically operating as a slave.
The master gives the constant-current-source for the response-bus and a limited current
to pull down and pull up the call-bus. In a master as slave you must disconnect the positive
power source and turn the datalines WBED/WBSD. The first switch is for this option,
the second is for toggle between WBED and WBSD for receive their data to Com two.
In addition, there should not be more than one master in a IBIS-System, the weaker cave in .

Best regards, Raiko
